I took the new lens for a test run today, wasn't sure how it would respond on the 7D but not too bad. I was hand holding and was not very steady so will have to try it on the tripod next time.
These photos are great. That sounds like a fairly heavy lens, but you managed very well hand holding it. Nice detail in your photos. Great lighting also. I have a 7D also and sometimes use a Sigma 150-500 F5-6.3with an optical stabilizer, and I find it heavy to hand hold but okay for short periods of time. I do use a tripod with it accept when shooting birds in flight, and things like that.
