Simple Pleasures

Last month we were to photograph simple pleasures for our photo forum, with everything going on with Dad I didn't post these and thought I would remember them here.  Dad always liked it when I had photos of old farming equipment.  The day was such a beautiful, crisp, fall day and I went driving in the country and came across these wagons in a field.  I'm not sure why I am drawn to the abandon, rusty things but I think it reminds me how temporary life is and that those material things do not matter but relationships do.  Unfortunately, our society has adopted this attitude towards people also.  When things get tough or relationships get hard we toss people and our relationships away.  The worn wood and patina of the metal is like the wrinkles and scars we develop over time but there is still beauty in it and life stories that need to be remembered.

Rusty Art

Not sure why but these look much sharper when you click on the photo!?

Coming home from our vacation and in western Tennessee we came upon these beauties!
I was so excited to see all the rust and character that these old trucks had.  I wonder what they were used for and the stories they could tell.

Smokey Mountains

These are from Cade's Cove in the Smokey Mountains.  The colors were just stunning and the early morning fog was spectacular as well.

Smokey Mountains

We had our first day at the Smokey Mountains and they are breathtaking!!!  It is so hard to try and capture the beauty and fall colors.  We were up and out to the park by 5:30 this morning and it was so worth it.  We saw a large black bear running across a meadow but it was much too far away to even try and get a picture but we saw one!  Going back in the morning to try again.

Sunset on Summer's End

Dan and I went for a drive Friday night and enjoyed seeing the evening sunlight on the remnants of summer.

Summer's end at the Sunken Gardens

So sad to read in today's paper that they have started to remove the perennials to the green houses.  this is one of my favorite places to take photos.  Every year I can't wait to see what plantings they will have, so the anticipation will now start to grow.

Swinging Bridge

Dan's folks took us on a photo drive when we were visiting to some things they had read about in their local tourist attraction magazine.  The Lake of the Ozarks area is full of interesting culture, nature and outdoor activities.  This bridge was designed and built in 1922 by Joe Dice.

Pilot and his plane

This Labor Day weekend we were in Galesburg, Il and were able to catch the first planes coming in for the annual fly-in.  I love these type of planes and the people that fly their planes to this event are so interesting.  I wish we could of been there the whole week to really expierence it all.

Heron at Holmes

When I was shooting with the wide angle I about stepped on this guy, he flew up right in front of me and scared the daylights out of me.  I watched where he landed and luckily I was able to get to the other side of the lake and he was still there.  He was very intent on fishing and couldn't care less that I was taking his picture.
